New screen shots

2nd July 2009

Here are a few screen shots of some of the new UI features that are being added to the upcoming release of Photato.

How to choose a sort order

Choosing a sort order

The sort order selection list is now clearer and on its own on the left side of the screen with the slideshow and/or reverse order buttons on the right of the screen.

Browse your friends

Browse your friends

The Friends page has now been implemented with each friend’s current profile photo appearing in the stack of photos. You can jump to friends whose names begin with a particular letter by selecting a letter in the list on the left side of the screen. This also gives you a visual cue as to where you are in the stack as it updates as you navigate through the photos.

View friend details

View friend details

Selecting a friend in the previous screen takes you to the details page for the friend where you can view their last status update, their album cover photos and their tagged photos. Selecting any of these will take you to the appropriate stacked photo view.

Hope you like them!

I’m pretty close to releasing a new version (should be this week). There’s quite a bit of new code and functionality in this release (which I’m really excited about) so I’d like to get it tested a bit before making it generally available. I’ll therefore make it available through the blog and a link on the forum first before updating the main download link on the home page of the site. When I do I’ll let you know through the blog so keep checking back or better still subscribe to the RSS feed if you haven’t already.

Cheers

Martin,
Great to see these new changes, and I’m looking forward to getting this up and running on my HTPC.
One question, will it work with Windows 7?
I’ve tried the previous version and it comes up with an error when I try to authorise with Facebook!

Good question. I have every intention of supporting Windows 7, but I am not sure whether this next release will. I am testing this release currently on both Vista and Windows 7 so I will certainly try to get it to work and will let you know how I get on.

For this next release I have changed the Facebook login process so that now a sperate pop-up window is used to display the Facebook login webpage. This is not ideal and is clearly not great for a Media Center add-in, but it’s a Facebook requirement in their Terms of Service that any Facebook app needs to use their login webpage. Having said that, I am hopeful this change may solve the login problem with Windows 7.

Thanks Martin, I’d be happy to test out any release that might work with Win7.
I’ll look forward to the next release and will certainly give it a go.

Ok, just a quick bit of good news. Everything, including logging into Facebook, seems to be working as well on Windows 7 as it does on Vista, so it looks like this next release will support Windows 7.

Martin.
